Recuerdo del Conservatorio de Música en Quito, vals del siglo XIX

Elvals ha sido uno de los géneros de mayor divulgación e influencia en América. Dio paso a la recreación de variantes que tomaron diversos causes y movimientos, tal el caso delvals Boston, unvalse lento que surgió en EEUU; y de mayor riqueza, elvals criollo que se halla en muchos países latinoamericanos con sus características propias, y que se lo baila todavía; y, al parecer, como una variante de losvalses criollos, además, surgió otro género, elpasillo.

En el siglo XIX varios músicos locales crearonvalses, género que llegó a constituirse en un momento como el género de representativa creación entre los músicos ecuatorianos, solo sobrepasado desde luego por elpasillo. Se hicieronvalses que emulaban a los europeos, pero otros, que son en realidad los que cuentan en el proceso identitario, llegaron a tener características muy diferentes a su fuente de ultramar, al punto que prácticamente era un género diferente, que recibió como designación general el mencionadovalse criollo.

Dentro del primer modelo, de losvalses europeístas, aquí presentamos una obra del compositor Carlos Amable Ortiz (1859-1937) dedicado al Conservatorio de Música, plantel que se instituyó en el siglo XIX, en 1870, bajo la presidencia de Gabriel García Moreno. Ortiz fue alumno de ese organismo y como un recuerdo, pues el Conservatorio fue clausurado en 1877, dedicó en 1892 esta tanda devalses.

En Guayaquil encontramos – de la misma obra- otra copia autógrafa , o sea de la pluma del propio compositor, con el título de: "Recuerdo del Conservatorio de Música del año de 1870, vals de concierto compuesto por Amable Carlos Ortiz. Quito año de 1891. Para la Exposición de Chicago”.
